This month we’ll be flying with Chickadees, climbing with Raccoons, and on the forest floor with Toads.

Chickadees

Chickadees are a tough little bird that do not migrate. During cold weather Chickadees have been found to need twenty times more food than they do in summer. They like to eat seeds, suet and even coconut. Chickadees weigh less than one-half of an ounce.

Raccoons

Raccoons are distinguished by a black mask across the eyes and bushy tail with anywhere from four to ten black rings. The forepaws resemble slender human hands and make the raccoon very dexterous. The coloration of the raccoon varies with habitat, and ranges from grey to reddish brown to buff.

Toads

Toads are associated with a drier, wart-covered, leathery skin, and shorter legs than frogs. They also can live further away from water. Toads are found on all continents except Antarctica and are also not present on isolated islands like New Zealand, New Guinea, and Madagascar.
